Frequently Asked Elderberry Questions

What is elderberry and what are the benefits?

Elderberry is the dark purple berry from the European Elder tree.  Elderberry is native to Europe, Africa and parts of Asia, but has become common in the U.S. It has deciduous leaves, white flowers (elderflowers), and berries that turn from green to red to black when ripe. Elderberries in the form of elderberry elixir have been shown to boost immunity. They are naturally high in antioxidants, flavanoids, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B6, iron and potassium, among several other essential nutrients.

What makes your elderberry elixir different from the other brands I can buy at the store?

Unlike other brands, we produce our products using NO artificial sweeteners, NO refined sugars, NO high fructose corn syrup, NO artificial dyes or colors, NO gelatin, and NO preservatives. We only use fresh berries harvested this season from family-owned farms, located in Southern Missiouri and Illinois, who use organic practices. This specifically ensures you are receiving the most effective product possible. We use real honey from local beekeepers. Our elixir has organic Ceylon cinnamon, which is widely considered to be true cinnamon, unlike most cinnamon varieties you find in retailers. We never waver on quality!

How much elderberry should I be taking?

The standard adult dose is ½-1Tablespoon and a child dose is ½-1teaspoon. As a preventative measure, take the standard dose daily. If actively fighting a cold or flu, you can take the standard dose every 2-3 hours. Some of our customers use elderberry preventatively year-round, while others choose to use it only when they are sick, just as they would use a medicine.

Can everyone use elderberry?

Elderberry elixir is safe for children over one year old; because of the honey content it is not safe for children under one year old.  If pregnant or nursing, discuss the use of elderberry elixir with your physician. Elderberry Elixir has not undergone extensive research regarding its safety. If you are under a physician's care consult with them before adding elderberry to your daily routine.
